"At 66 I cannot avoid reminiscing and being nostalgic of my enjoyable and not so enjoyble and unforgetable past. It is especially so when present events somewhat reflects a continuation of past events of which I was involved or at least I had observed. I intend to write my memories and recollections of them and comments on issues of interest to me and hopefully to others as well"
Which one is the Cellads Executive Chairman? |
Many remember me as the man in cowboy hat who walked with a stick around town enforcing road discipline when I was in JPJ. Some knew me as the red mascot in a red hat promoting what was then the unknown Air Asia. I am a proud member of the elite Administrative and Diplomatic Service. My last position was the Secretary General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs. My other positions in the service of Malaysia were as the Director General of Road Transport Department and Farmers Organisation Authority and Minister Counsellor at the Malaysian High Commission, London. After my services were no longer required by the Malaysia on reaching the young age of 55 in 2001, I began chambering to become an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya of which I am now a proud member of Malaysian Bar.
yeeehaaa!!! Here you go.. Introduce our macho executive chairman.. Still going strong.. |
Simultaneously, together with my 3 other friends, we reinvented Air Asia to be a low cost carrier. I was the founding chairman for seven years.
Can you name the other 2 guys? |
The last fold..
I retired as Chairman of Air Asia at the Annual General Meeting in June 2008. As the Founding Chairman I left with mixed feeling. I was sad to leave a company which I passionately help to grow from a two plane company to an 82 planes company now. The company which was losing hundreds of thousands of ringgit a year now makes millions of profits. A company which carried thousands of passengers now carries millions of passengers. Air Asia has grown from an unknown company to a world famous airline winning the world best low cost airline in the world. On the other hand I was happy to leave a Company that is successful that is stir run by my co founders who have become not only well known but rich.
I miss everyone who were working in Air Asia. For almost a year I stayed away from the LCCT and ceased travelling on Air Asia. I was using MAS and Firefly on my domestic and international travels.
MAS vs AirAsia.. |
Firefly brings the backyard of Malaysia?! |
Tony persuaded me not to stay away from Air Asia. I reluctantly attended the celebration they had when Air Asia was awarded the best low cost airline in the world. They also honoured me as the founding chairman of Air Asia and my little contributions to making Air Asia what it is today. I was melancholic. It makes me want to travel on Air Asia again..
For most people I never left Air Asia. Many thought I was still chairman. I still received complaints and compliments. The staff of Air Asia both my contemporaries and new ones still remember and know me. I was treated as though I was still chairman.
Last but not least.. |
